The odds of winning in Keno cannot be increased — every draw is independent, and all numbers have an identical probability of being drawn. The player only decides on the relationship between risk and stake: the more numbers you pick, the rarer but higher the win. Hitting a complete set with ten numbers marked happens roughly once in every 4.3 million bets — analysis of „hot numbers” or gaps does not change this, because past results have no influence on future ones.

What is Keno and how does the draw work

Keno is a number game run in Poland by Totalizator Sportowy. The pool contains 70 numbers, of which 20 are selected in each draw. The player decides how many numbers to pick — from one to ten — and what stake to put on the bet. Draws take place at short intervals, roughly every four minutes during the game's operating hours, which sets Keno apart from games drawn once or a few times a week. For comparison: Lotto is drawn on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at around 10:00 PM.

This frequency is sometimes mistakenly read as an „analytical” advantage: since there are many draws, patterns should be easier to spot. In reality, it works the other way around. A large number of independent events causes the distribution of results to approach the theoretical one, and random clusters of numbers — inevitable in any random sequence — get diluted in a larger sample. Frequent draws instead increase the pace at which money is spent, because the time between one bet and the next is shorter.

Current rules, stakes, multipliers, and draw times are published exclusively by the organizer. It's worth checking them at the source before playing, because the parameters of number games are sometimes changed, and external services — including this one — may present data from before a rules update.

Chances of winning — numbers, not impressions

The probability in Keno is calculated using the hypergeometric distribution: 20 numbers are drawn from a pool of 70, and the player marks between 1 and 10. The table below shows the chance of hitting all the marked numbers in a single bet. Values are rounded.

The table shows only the chance of hitting the complete set. In Keno, winnings are also awarded for hitting only some of the picked numbers — with eight numbers marked, a prize is also paid for six or seven hits. The prize table and multipliers belong to the organizer, and it is their document — not a calculation from an external service — that determines exactly how much a given bet pays.

How to read this table and what it doesn't tell you

Each row describes a different game, not a different „difficulty level” of the same one. Moving from three numbers to six is not a step toward a bigger win — it's a switch from a bet that pays off every few dozen draws to one where nothing happens for thousands of games. The payout grows, but the frequency drops at the same rate or faster.

What the table doesn't say: how much actually returns to the player. That depends on the payout table and the multiplier, not on the chance of hitting alone. Two bets with identical probability can pay different amounts if the organizer priced the prize categories differently. That's why comparing game variants solely by the chance of hitting the complete set is incomplete — half of the equation is missing.

There's also a third thing the table doesn't show: how many draws you'd need to wait through for the complete set to even come up. With ten numbers, a chance of 1 in 4.3 million means that even playing every four minutes without a break, statistically you would not live to see it hit within many human lifetimes. This is not a bet that „will eventually pay off” — it's a bet where winning is an extremely rare event and should be treated as such when planning your spending.

Why „hot number” analysis doesn't work

The most popular method described by players involves gathering the results of several hundred or several thousand draws and listing the numbers that came up most often. The reasoning sounds sensible: since the machine is a physical device, it might have a flaw, and a flaw would leave a trace in the statistics.

The problem is that in a random sample, differences between numbers always appear and on their own prove nothing. Out of a thousand draws, each number should come up on average about 286 times, with a typical fluctuation of a dozen or so hits up or down. A number that came up 305 times looks „hot” on a list, even though it falls within normal variation. Distinguishing a real equipment fault from chance requires a statistical significance test and a sample counted in tens of thousands of draws — not just a ranking.

There's also a practical argument that's rarely mentioned: it's the organizer, not the player, who has an interest in detecting such a flaw. Draws are subject to oversight and equipment inspection, and a faulty machine poses a legal risk for the operator. The assumption that a flaw persists for years and goes unnoticed by everyone except someone browsing results in a spreadsheet is unlikely.

The same applies to „gap analysis” and „patterns.” In any random sequence, you can find a regularity if you search for it long enough — a phenomenon known as data dredging. A pattern found after the fact has no power to predict the next draw.

What the player actually controls

No one has any influence over the outcome of a draw. There are, however, three things a player actually decides.

First — the number of picked numbers. This doesn't make a bet „better,” but it changes its character. Two or three numbers mean frequent, small wins; nine or ten mean a bet where nothing happens for hundreds of games, but the payout — if it comes — is large. It's a choice between a flat distribution and a very skewed one.

Second — the stake and frequency of play. With draws every four minutes, it's easy to lose track of how many bets have been placed within an hour. A budget set in advance for a session is the only mechanism that truly works, because it doesn't depend on results or mood.

Third — awareness that number games have a negative expected value. Part of the revenue from bets covers the prizes, and the rest goes to the organizer and the state budget. Over the long run, a player gives back more than they receive. There is no method of picking numbers that can reverse this — because the problem doesn't lie in the choice of numbers, but in the construction of the game itself.

The myth of the unique set — when it makes sense, and when it doesn't

Guides often repeat the advice to mark numbers rarely chosen by other players: above 31, meaning outside the range of birth dates, or numbers that aren't next to each other. This is sound advice, but only in games with a shared prize pool, where the prize is split among everyone who hit the same set — that's how Lotto works when a jackpot is hit.

In Keno, the winnings depend on the payout table and the chosen stake, not on the number of people who hit the same set. Choosing „unpopular” numbers therefore changes neither the chance of hitting nor the amount won. Advice that makes sense in a different game gives nothing here — yet it's sometimes presented as a way to „increase your chances,” which it is not.

Four questions that keep coming back

Does the multiplier increase the odds? No. The multiplier only affects the payout amount and the size of the stake — the probability of hitting stays exactly the same as in a bet without the multiplier. What changes is the variance of the outcome, not its distribution.

Is it worth playing the same set for many draws? The chance in every draw is identical, so repeating a set neither increases nor decreases it. Repetition only affects the total amount of money spent, because each draw is a new, separate bet.

Does a number that hasn't come up for a long time „have to” appear? No. This is the classic gambler's fallacy: the ball or the generator doesn't remember previous draws, so a long gap creates no obligation whatsoever. After fifty draws without a specific number, its chance in draw number fifty-one is exactly the same as it was in the first.

Does placing more bets in a single draw improve the situation? It increases the chance that one of them will hit, but proportionally to the amount spent — and it doesn't change the negative expected value. Ten bets mean ten times the expense and roughly ten times the chance, not a shortcut to a win.

Summary

Keno is a game of pure chance with fixed, predetermined probabilities. Every draw starts from scratch and doesn't remember the previous ones — that's why no analysis of history, no ranking of hot numbers, and no pattern of gaps shifts the odds even by a fraction of a percent. The player's real decision isn't about which numbers to mark, but about how many numbers to pick, how much to spend, and when to stop.
