Number games
Lotto online – how to play Lotto over the Internet?
Łukasz Kamiński
In short
You can play Lotto online exclusively at lotto.pl and in the LOTTO app — these are the only legal internet channels of Totalizator Sportowy. Create an account, confirm your identity, top up your LOTTO wallet, and fill in a coupon before ticket sales close. Lotto draws take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at around 10:00 PM. The game is available only to adults.
Where to legally play Lotto over the Internet
Sale of number games over the Internet in Poland is run exclusively by Totalizator Sportowy — the operator of the LOTTO brand. The official channels are the lotto.pl website and the LOTTO mobile app for Android and iOS. Any other website offering “bets on Lotto results” is not selling Totalizator's coupons, but its own product — and is not an entity to which you can file a claim for a draw win.
Before entering any data, check the address in your browser's address bar. The domain is lotto.pl — not similarly sounding variants. Download the app only from Google Play or the App Store, never from a link sent in a message.
Registration and identity verification step by step
Creating an account is free, but it requires confirming that you are an adult. This follows from the Gambling Act, not from the operator's whim — which is why the verification stage cannot be skipped.
- Go to lotto.pl or open the LOTTO app. Choose the option to create an account. Provide the email address that will become your login, and a password.
- Fill in your personal details. First name, last name, PESEL number, address of residence, and phone number. The data must match your identity document — otherwise verification will fail.
- Confirm your identity. The operator offers several paths: verification via online banking, submitting a photo of a document, or confirmation at a LOTTO sales point. The methods and their availability are described in the service's regulations.
- Set play limits. At the registration stage you declare the maximum deposit amount and the time spent in the service. You can lower the limit immediately; raising it takes effect after the delay provided for in the regulations.
- Top up your LOTTO wallet. Bank transfer, payment card, or BLIK. You pay for coupons from these funds — the service does not work like a shop with a cart and an invoice at the end of the month.
- Fill in the coupon and pay for the bet. Choose numbers manually or use the automatic draw option. Confirm the bet before ticket sales for the given draw close.
Draw times and the deadline for closing sales
Lotto is drawn three times a week: on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. As of August 1, 2023, Totalizator Sportowy moved the draw time of the LOTTO games — Lotto and Lotto Plus are drawn at around 10:00 PM. The change also covered the other games in this family, so if you remember the old time of 9:40 PM, verify it against the operator's announcement.
Sales of coupons for a given draw close before it starts — the exact closing moment is given by the service for each game. A bet paid after that time takes part in the next draw, not the current one. So don't leave your coupon for the last minutes: a technical break at your bank or a problem with BLIK is enough for the payment not to be recorded in time.
Draw times and sales closing deadlines may be changed by the operator, and a separate schedule applies on public holidays. Before playing, check the current announcement at lotto.pl — data in articles, including this one, may become outdated.
Account and money security
An account with the LOTTO service is linked to your PESEL number and bank account, so having it taken over is a more serious problem than losing access to your email inbox. A few rules that reduce the risk:
- Use a password you don't use anywhere else, and enable additional login protection if the operator offers it.
- Don't log in to the service from a link in an email or text message. Type the address in manually or use your own bookmark.
- Totalizator Sportowy does not ask for a password, PIN code, or full card number over the phone or in a message. Any such request is an attempted scam.
- Don't share your account with other people. Playing on someone else's account makes it harder to collect a prize — funds go to the account of the account owner whose data passed verification.
- Regularly check the transaction history in your LOTTO wallet. An unknown deposit or bet is a signal to change your password immediately and contact customer support.
Collecting a prize from a coupon bought online
An internet coupon cannot be lost or fade in your pocket — it's saved to your account. Winnings up to the amount specified in the regulations are transferred automatically to the LOTTO wallet, from where you transfer them to your bank account. Higher winnings are collected in the mode described by the operator, usually after contacting Customer Service.
Remember about tax: winnings in number games above the threshold indicated in the regulations are subject to a flat-rate income tax, withheld by the payer. Check the threshold amounts and the rate against the current legal status — this is an area that gets amended from time to time.
The right to claim a prize expires after the deadline specified in the game's regulations. In practice, with online play this problem almost never occurs, because the system informs you of a win itself, but it's worth checking your account after every draw you took part in.
Online versus at a sales point — what's the difference
The rules of the game, bet prices, prize pools and draw schedule are identical in both channels. The differences concern only convenience and formalities:
- Online: coupon saved to your account, automatic win notification, payout to a bank account, built-in deposit and time limits, required identity verification.
- At a sales point: payment in cash or by card without opening an account, a paper coupon you have to keep, and the need to check the results yourself.
Neither channel gives an advantage in the draw. The probability of hitting the six numbers in Lotto is 1 in 13,983,816 regardless of where you buy the coupon — it results directly from the number of possible combinations of six numbers out of forty-nine and is not changed by the purchase method, the chosen numbers, or the number of bets bought in a single draw.
Responsible play and frequently asked questions
Playing over the Internet is more convenient, which makes it easier to lose track of spending. The limits set at registration are not a formality — treat them as a budget you set for yourself, and set an amount whose loss won't change your financial situation. The service also provides a history of deposits and bets; reviewing it once a month takes a minute.
Do I need a bank account to play online?Yes — an account is needed to top up your wallet and to withdraw funds. The payout goes to an account belonging to the owner of the verified profile. Can I play if I'm 17?No. Participation in gambling games, including Lotto, is permitted in Poland only from the age of 18. Identity verification serves precisely to check this condition. What if I forget to check the results?Coupons and their status are visible in your account history, and the service informs you about wins. A prize does not disappear because you didn't check the website on draw day.Does any system increase the chance of winning? No. Every draw is independent, and all combinations have the same chance. Historical statistics describe what has already come up and say nothing about the next draw.Play only for adults. Gambling can be addictive — play responsibly and only for amounts whose loss you are able to accept.
