Lotto Plus — how the add-on works

Lotto Plus is an additional draw featuring the very same set of six numbers you marked on your Lotto ticket. The add-on costs 1 zł per bet and changes neither the numbers nor the pool they're drawn from — it only changes how many times that same set gets checked. The Plus draw takes place right after the Lotto draw, using a separate machine and a separate set of balls.

The key difference isn't in the drawing mechanics but in how the prize pool is built. In Lotto, the first-tier prize is a jackpot that grows until someone hits it. In Lotto Plus, it's fixed: six matches always pays one million zloty, regardless of how many draws have passed without a winner or how many players took part.

Bet prices and prize amounts are set by the official rules of Totalizator Sportowy. Before buying a ticket, check the current version on the organizer's website, as rates can change independently of the draw rules themselves.

How much does a ticket cost, with and without the add-on

The add-on is charged per single bet, not per whole ticket. That distinction matters for multi-bet tickets, where the add-on cost rises just as fast as the cost of the base game.

The add-on raises the ticket cost by a third. For a single bet that's one zloty; for a system with thirty bets it's thirty zloty per draw. What the add-on changes in the bet's balance

The add-on doesn't change the probability of winning in Lotto. Your six numbers have exactly the same odds in the base draw, whether you paid the extra zloty or not. The add-on adds a second, independent draw from the same pool of 49 numbers — so the same set gets checked twice instead of once.

Both draws are entirely independent of each other. Hitting six matches in Lotto doesn't raise or lower the odds of hitting six in Plus, and vice versa. The same ticket sometimes wins both games at once, but that isn't the result of any rule — it's simply a coincidence of two independent events.

In practice, then, the add-on answers a question about the type of prize, not about how often you win. A player counting on a jackpot climbing into the tens of millions gets that only in Lotto. A player for whom one million zloty is enough gets a fixed, predictable amount in Plus that doesn't depend on how many people played in a given draw.

Lower prize tiers

Lotto Plus also rewards matches of five, four and three numbers, on its own terms and from its own pool. The amounts for these prizes are set by the game's rules, and their size can depend on the number of winners in a given draw. Keep in mind that Lotto and Lotto Plus winnings are treated as two separate prizes. This has a direct effect on tax: the tax-free threshold of 2,280 zł is calculated for each prize separately, not for their sum. Two prizes of 2,000 zł each from the same ticket both stay tax-free, while a single prize of 4,000 zł does not. We cover the details of settling this in a separate post about tax on winnings.

Where to collect a Plus prize

The procedure is the same as for Lotto. The lowest amounts are paid out at any lottery outlet, higher amounts require a visit to one of the Totalizator Sportowy branches, and the million for six matches is collected after scheduling an appointment, paid by bank transfer. Most common misunderstandings

First: that Lotto Plus draws different numbers than the ones marked on the ticket. No — the exact same six numbers take part, simply checked a second time. Second: that the add-on increases the Lotto prize. It doesn't change it at all; Plus has its own, fixed pool. Third: that Plus also builds a rollover. It doesn't — the million for six matches is a fixed amount, and unallocated funds don't carry over to the next draw in a way that raises the top prize.

The fourth misunderstanding concerns statistics. Draw history shows how often a given number has come up in the past, and nothing more. Past frequency doesn't change the probability in the next draw, because each draw is an independent event — this applies to both Lotto and Plus.
