Moving average calculator
Paste a time-ordered series, choose a method and compare the raw values with the smoothed line.
Data and smoothed series
The smoothed line describes the observed series; it is not a forecast on its own.

How to use this page
- Paste values in time order.
- Choose SMA, WMA, EMA or CMA and set the method parameter.
- Compare the chart and the row-by-row table.
What this page does not do: A moving average describes the supplied data. It does not prove a trend or automatically model seasonality and structural changes.
Further reading
SMA gives every observation in the window equal weight. WMA accepts custom weights, while EMA gives recent values more influence through α. CMA averages all observations from the start of the series.
A shorter window or larger α reacts faster but removes less random variation.
Frequently asked questions
How should I choose an SMA window?
A smaller window reacts faster, while a larger one smooths more strongly. Compare settings against the purpose of the analysis.
What does α mean in EMA?
α is the share assigned to the newest observation. A value closer to 1 reacts faster to new data.
