Point-biserial correlation calculator
Paste numeric values and their matching binary group codes 0 and 1 in the same order.
How do I use this page?
- Paste the numeric values.
- Paste matching 0 and 1 codes.
- Read rpb, group means and the t test.
What this page does not do: Groups must be genuinely binary, observations independent, and the numeric outcome suitable for comparing means.

Theory — what is point-biserial correlation?
Point-biserial correlation is a special case of Pearson correlation where one variable is numeric and the other has exactly two natural categories coded as 0 and 1. The sign of the coefficient depends on how groups are coded — a positive value means a higher mean of the numeric variable in group 1. The calculator takes numeric values with matching group codes, entered in the same order. If groups use other labels, recode them to 0 and 1 first so the sign has a clear meaning.
