Spearman correlation calculator
Paste two equal-length series. The calculator converts values to ranks and correlates those ranks.

How do I use this page?
- Paste paired X and Y values in matching order.
- Choose the test direction.
- Read rho, t and the p-value.
What this page does not do: The p-value uses a t-distribution approximation. A strong non-monotonic relationship may still have rho near zero.

Theory — what is Spearman correlation?
Spearman's rank correlation describes the strength and direction of a monotonic relationship between two variables, not necessarily a linear one. It is Pearson's correlation computed on ranks rather than raw values, which handles tied scores correctly through average ranking. The coefficient rho ranges from minus one to one, with values near either extreme indicating a strong monotonic link. The method does not require linearity, only a consistent direction of change.
