Wilcoxon signed-rank test calculator
Paste before and after measurements in matching order. Zero differences are omitted and the rest are ranked by absolute size.

How do I use this page?
- Paste measurements in matching rows.
- Choose the alternative direction.
- Review W+, W−, z and the p-value.
What this page does not do: The test assumes independent pairs and an approximately symmetric distribution of differences. With few pairs an exact test may give a different p-value.

Theory — what is the Wilcoxon signed-rank test?
The Wilcoxon signed-rank test compares two related measurements, such as before and after values, without assuming the differences are normally distributed. It analyses the signs and ranks of the absolute differences within each pair, giving weight to their magnitude. Pairs with a zero difference are excluded, while the remaining differences are ranked by absolute size. The calculator handles tied ranks and applies a normal approximation with a continuity correction, the usual approach for larger samples.
