Hot and cold numbers

How often each of the 49 Lotto Plus numbers came up in the selected range. Hot ones came up most often, cold ones least often. Next to every number stands the expected value from the random model and the z deviation computed on the same sample.

In the random model each of the 49 numbers came up on average 0,9 times in 7 draws, with a deviation of 0,87. The z value says by how many such deviations a number’s result differed from the expectation.

The simultaneous 95% band awaits calibration — until then we do not mark any number as unusual.

How this was calculated

For every number we counted how many times it came up in the N draws of the range (history). The random model assumes each of the 49 numbers has probability p = 6/49 in a single draw; hence e = N·p and sd = √(N·p·(1−p)), and z = (came up − e)/sd. The z value concerns a single number — with 49 numbers watched at once a deviation of |z| around 2 shows up in an ordinary draw, so the whole table is judged by the simultaneous 95% band from a separate calibration. Over a range of years we compute e and z from the sum of the yearly files; short windows show plain facts, without tests. This page describes the past and does not forecast further draws.

What do these numbers show?
  • Number 19 came up most often: 3 times in 7 draws (history), z = 2,47 — more than 2 deviations for a single number; with 49 numbers watched at once such a deviation happens in an ordinary draw, so judging it unusual needs the simultaneous band.
  • Number 4 came up least often: 0 times in 7 draws (history), z = -0,99 — that falls within the ordinary spread of the random model.
  • The simultaneous 95% band awaits calibration; until then no number is marked as unusual.

These are historical data. Each draw is independent of previous draws, so these numbers do not tell us what will be drawn next.

How do I use this page?
  1. Choose a number of recent draws or a range of years.
  2. Compare how many times a number came up with the expected count e for the same sample.
  3. Read z: how many sd the result differs from the expectation; |z| below 2 is ordinary spread.
  4. Check whether the simultaneous band from the calibration flagged any numbers outside the range.

What this page does not do: it does not point to numbers to play and does not say what will come up in the next draw.
