First and last number of the draw

For every Lotto draw we take the lowest and the highest of the 6 drawn numbers (pool 1–49). The random model gives an exact probability for every value, computed from the number of possible sets, not from a simulation.

Smallest draw number — 10 most common values

Observed = in how many of N draws this number was the smallest (source: history). % model = probability in the random model; a dash means no model value.

How we calculate it

The lowest number of a draw is a when the remaining drawn numbers are greater than it: the probability is C(49 − a, 6 − 1) / C(49, 6). For the highest number b the rest must be smaller: C(b − 1, 6 − 1) / C(49, 6). The model values do not depend on the range — only the history changes.

Setting history against the model is descriptive. We give no significance-test result here: a difference of a few percentage points in a short window is not a test in itself, and the observations of the lowest and the highest number from one draw depend on each other. Over a range of years we sum the counters from the yearly files; the order of draws in such a range is not preserved.

Explore the same data actively. The tools describe history and the random model; they do not predict the next result.

What do these numbers show?
  • The lowest number of a draw was most often 1 — in 7 of 50 draws (14,0%, source: history); random model: 12,2% (source: model).
  • The highest number of a draw was most often 44 — in 5 of 50 draws (10,0%, source: history); random model: 6,9% (source: model).

These are historical data. Each draw is independent of previous draws, so these numbers do not tell us what will be drawn next.

How do I use this page?
  1. Choose a number of recent draws or a range of years.
  2. In the cards, see which number opened a draw most often and which closed it, and compare the historical share with the model one.
  3. In the tables, check the ten most frequent values of the smallest and the largest number.
  4. A dash in the model column means the model value is missing from the data, not zero.

What this page does not do: does not point to numbers to play and does not predict which number will open or close the next draw.
