How to use this page
- Choose exact, at most or at least.
- Enter the dice and side counts.
- Enter a possible target sum.
What this page does not do: The model assumes fair dice with equal numbers of sides and independent rolls.
Further reading
Every ordered outcome of d independent dice has probability 1/sᵈ. Sums are not equally likely because different numbers of outcomes lead to them.
For two six-sided dice, 7 is more frequent than 2 because six outcomes produce 7 and only one produces 2.
Frequently asked questions
Why are sums not equally likely?
Different numbers of ordered dice outcomes produce each sum.
Does it work for d20 dice?
Yes. Set 20 sides; all dice in one calculation must be identical.
