What do these numbers mean?
  • Scottish employment income uses different bands from England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
  • The Personal Allowance falls by £1 for every £2 of adjusted net income above £100,000.

The estimate excludes student loans, postgraduate loans, benefits in kind, bonuses treated in a separate pay period, marriage allowance, blind person's allowance and non-standard NI categories.

How do I use this page?
  1. Fill in the fields in the form above — the result recomputes at once, with no page reload.
  2. Under the result you will find the interpretation scale, if the calculator has one: it says which range your value fell into.
  3. The formula we use is shown lower on this page — you can check the arithmetic yourself.
  4. To compute the same for another game or variant, change it in the select field — prices and pools update automatically.

What this page does not do: The estimate excludes student loans, postgraduate loans, benefits in kind, bonuses treated in a separate pay period, marriage allowance, blind person's allowance and non-standard NI categories.

Theory — how is the UK salary calculator worked out?

The calculator estimates annual and monthly take-home pay from gross income using the official 2026/27 tax year thresholds. The model applies the standard Personal Allowance, regional Income Tax rates and Category A National Insurance contributions. These rates cover the period from 6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027. The actual payslip may differ due to an individual tax code, pay period, bonuses or student loan repayments.

Frequently asked questions

Which UK tax year does this calculator use?
It uses verified 2026/27 rates, from 6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027.
Does it support Scottish Income Tax?
Yes. Choose Scotland to use the 2026/27 Scottish employment-income bands. National Insurance thresholds remain UK-wide.
Why can my payslip differ?
Payroll uses tax codes and pay-period rules. Student loans, benefits, bonuses, prior earnings and rounding can also change deductions.
Is pension salary sacrifice included?
Yes, as a simplified percentage deducted before the annual Income Tax and employee NI estimate.
