What these numbers mean
  • The mean lies halfway between a and b.
  • The CDF rises linearly from 0 to 1 over [a,b].

The model assumes equal density across the interval. It does not fit data concentrated near the centre or the boundaries.

How to use this page
  1. Enter bounds a<b.
  2. Choose density, CDF, tail or quantile.
  3. Provide x or probability q.

What this page does not do: The model assumes equal density across the interval. It does not fit data concentrated near the centre or the boundaries.

Further reading

A continuous uniform U(a,b) distribution assigns constant density 1/(b−a) across the interval. A subinterval's probability depends only on its length.

The probability at a single point is zero even though density inside the interval is positive.

Frequently asked questions

Do the endpoints change probability?

Not for a continuous distribution: individual points have probability zero.

What is the median quantile?

The 0.5 quantile is (a+b)/2, equal to the mean.
