Last digits of drawn numbers

The last digit is the units digit of a number: 7, 17, 27 and 47 all end in 7. We count how many times each of the ten last digits came up among all the numbers drawn in the range, and compare that with what the random model would give for a pool of 80 numbers.

Bars show observed hits and the dashed line shows the expected count. 114.0 0 0: 95.0, expected 100.0 0 1: 96.0, expected 100.0 1 2: 104.0, expected 100.0 2 3: 108.0, expected 100.0 3 4: 99.0, expected 100.0 4 5: 89.0, expected 100.0 5 6: 98.0, expected 100.0 6 7: 98.0, expected 100.0 7 8: 99.0, expected 100.0 8 9: 114.0, expected 100.0 9

Bars: observed history; dashed line: expected count from the random model.

Hits by last digit

Hits = how many drawn numbers had that last digit in the N draws (history). Expected = N × 20 × (numbers in the pool with that last digit ÷ 80) — the random model. Numbers in the pool per last digit: 0 → 8 · 1 → 8 · 2 → 8 · 3 → 8 · 4 → 8 · 5 → 8 · 6 → 8 · 7 → 8 · 8 → 8 · 9 → 8.

The difference between the most frequent (9: 114) and the least frequent (5: 89) last digit came to 25 hits out of 1,000 numbers drawn in 50 draws. Part of that difference comes from the pool itself — the last digits do not have an equal number of numbers in it.

Explore the same data actively. The tools describe history and the random model; they do not predict the next result.

Random-model simulator — see ordinary random variation

Generate independent draws with the rules of this game and compare observed counts with the common expected value. Every run is different.

What do these numbers show?
  • Last digit 9 came up most often: 114 hits in 50 draws (history), against 100,0 expected in the model for the 8 numbers with that last digit in the pool.
  • Last digit 5 came up least often: 89 hits in 50 draws (history), against 100,0 expected in the model for the 8 numbers with that last digit in the pool.

These are historical data. Each draw is independent of previous draws, so these numbers do not tell us what will be drawn next.

How do I use this page?
  1. Choose a number of recent draws or a range of years.
  2. Read the frequency of the units digits from 0 to 9.
  3. The percentages refer to drawn numbers, not to the number of draws.
  4. Last digits can have different numbers of representatives in the pool — the model accounts for that.

What this page does not do: it does not predict future results and does not improve your chance of winning.
