Theory — what is a weighted average?
A weighted average differs from a plain one in that each value carries a weight reflecting its importance. Each value is multiplied by its weight, the products summed and divided by the sum of weights — when weights are equal, the result matches the plain average. For grades of 5 (weight 3), 4 (weight 2) and 3 (weight 1), the sum of products is 26 and the sum of weights is 6, giving 26/6. The calculator accepts values and weights one pair per line.
