Cylinder volume calculator
Enter the base radius and cylinder height. The calculator shows volume, surface areas and a clearly typeset substitution into the formula.
How do I use this page?
- Enter the base radius.
- Enter the height in the same unit.
- Read the volume and surface areas with the substituted formula.
What this page does not do: Radius and height must be positive. Both values must use the same unit.

Formula
V = πr²h; Aₜ = 2πr² + 2πrh Theory — how do you calculate cylinder volume?
A cylinder has two equal circular bases joined by a lateral surface running around the full circumference. Volume is found by multiplying the base area πr² by the height h, giving the formula V = πr²h. For a radius of 3 cm and height of 5 cm, the volume equals 45π cm³, roughly 141.37 cm³, with a total surface area of 48π cm². The calculator applies the same substitution to whatever dimensions are entered.
