A date difference has two correct answers and both are in use. The calendar difference counts the days between the dates without the end day: Monday to Wednesday is 2 days. The „inclusive” variant counts both end days — that is how leave days, hotel nights or treatment days are counted, where both the first and the last day count. From 28 February to 1 March 2024 the difference is 2 days (a leap year, 29 February lies in between), inclusively 3 days.
The calendar difference in years, months and days uses a stepping method: whole months are added to the start date as long as they fit within the end date, and the remainder is given in days. When the target month has no such day, the month's last day is used. That is why 31 January to 28 February is a full month, not 28 days without a month.
If you enter the dates in reverse order the calculator does not show a confusing negative number. It computes the difference and marks it as counted backwards. Weeks are the number of days divided by seven, with a fractional part — 10 days is 1.43 weeks.

When both end days are „occupied”: leave from Monday to Friday is 5 days inclusive, although the date difference is 4.
