Theory — how do you calculate the needed final grade?
The calculator works out the grade needed on the final exam or assignment to reach a chosen final average, given that component's weight. With a current average of 4, a target of 4.5 and an exam worth 50%, the required grade is (4.5 − 4 × 0.5) / 0.5 = 5. A table also shows the resulting final average for the lowest and highest possible exam grades, so you can see the realistic range of outcomes.
