Theory — when does refinancing a loan pay off?
Refinancing a loan means repaying an existing obligation with a new loan, usually on more favourable terms. A lower instalment alone does not guarantee savings — extending the loan term can reduce the monthly payment while increasing the total interest paid over time. The calculator compares both loans together with fees, commissions and any early repayment compensation. Refinancing pays off when the sum of future instalments and all switching costs is lower than the remaining cost of the current loan.
