Theory — how does a weighted grade average work?
A weighted grade average differs from a plain one because each grade gets a weight reflecting its importance. For a grade of 4 with weight 2 and a grade of 5 with weight 1, the result is (4×2+5×1)/3, which equals 4.3333. The calculator multiplies each grade by its weight, sums the products and divides by total weight. Weights need not add up to one hundred, but all must be positive, otherwise the result loses meaning.
